Maryland Case Study: Tax Increases Kill Revenue and Economic Growth

Liberals tell us that the government must raise taxes to increase tax revenue. However, this model can only work in the absence of competition. When Governor O’Malley of Maryland decided to raise taxes on the people of his state in 2007, he and his liberal state politicians were oblivious of the competition posed by tax-friendly states. O’Malley hiked sales taxes by 20% and vehicle titling fees on working families, raised taxes on high-income earners, and proposed massive government spending. As a result, Marylanders started shopping at neighboring states like Delaware, with zero sales tax. Also, those so-called “rich people” voted with their feet by relocating to other tax-friendly states. Ironically, there is panic in the state as income tax revenue is decreasing in Maryland with some localities now reporting up to a 65% reduction in revenue. This is a case study for the entire nation and a lesson for everyone that increasing taxes is inversely proportional to higher revenue and economic growth. If you want to stimulate the economy, cut taxes and watch economic activities take off.

$300 million secured Senator Landrieu’s vote on November 21 to move the health care bill forward. The only difference between Senator Landrieu and convicted Rep. William Jefferson (both from Louisiana) is that Senator Landrieu’s pay is coming from the American tax-payers (our money) and the amount is significantly larger. Jefferson in his appeal process should expose the injustice of the system—“She got more money than me, why isn’t she going to jail for at least 13 years too?”

Former CIA Official: Morale at the Agency is Down to Minus 50

The Washington post is reporting that a former CIA official who worked at the agency during the time when these controversial interrogation techniques were implemented says that “Morale at the agency is down to minus 50”.

This investigation is purely destructive to our national interests.

As an American, my primary concern as we approach the 8th year anniversary of 9/11 is the safety of my family and my fellow citizens. Our government must do everything necessary to secure and protect its citizens. The Bush administration lived everyday fighting those fanatics and kept my family and my neighbors safe after 9/11, by making national security their utmost priority. I wish I could say the same thing about the Obama administration.

My Condolences to Ted Kennedy’s Family, and All Abortion Babies' Families

I will like to express my condolences to the Kennedy family for the death of Senator Ted Kennedy—one soul. I also want to seize this opportunity to send my condolences to the families of the millions of American children—millions of souls—killed through the process of abortion which Ted Kennedy supported and promoted since Roe vs Wade. My condolences also go to the families of the over 13 million black babies aborted since 1973—that is 13 million souls. While blacks make up only 12.8% of the population in America, black babies account for over 35% of infanticide victims.

Although Ted Kennedy supported several civil rights efforts, sadly, he miss the BIGGEST civil rights issue of our day—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for the most vulnerable amongst us, our unborn children.

May all their souls (Teddy's included) rest in peace.

This is the same socialist Canadian healthcare system that President Obama and the Dems want to model our healthcare after. I have an easy solution: Let’s keep both healthcare systems unchanged, but bus all the socialism-loving Americans to Canada and all the freedom-loving Canadians to America.

President Obama Says 247,000 Job Loss is the Right Direction

On August 7, President Obama celebrated July job loss by saying “though we lost 247,000 jobs in July, that was nearly 200,000 fewer jobs lost than in June”, and that “we are headed in the right direction.”

Mr. President, there is no reason to celebrate because 274,000 Americans actually lost their jobs. Do you think that those who lost their jobs or those who know a neighbor who has just been laid-off think we are headed in the right direction? I thought you said during the campaign that one job loss was one too many. What has happened to you since you arrived in Washington? Have you lost touch with the regular people? You promised us that unemployment would never climb above 8%. Now it is at 9.4% (and 14.5% among blacks) and you are celebrating?

Who invests $150 million, watches the investment lose value every month, and celebrates an improved loss of $247,000 in the previous month?

Didn’t the president promise during the campaign to provide for the American people the same platinum healthcare that Congress now enjoys? Why then is the President (and Congress) proposing for the American people, a healthcare insurance program that is very inferior to what Congress currently enjoys? I thought President Obama was voted into office to eliminate the “special interests and to help “equalize the playing field”? He doesn’t talk about equal healthcare with Congress anymore. If Obama’s healthcare plan is so good for the rest of us, Obama’s bill in Congress should make it mandatory for all members of the House and Senate, the Whitehouse staff, and their families, to sign up for the same plan. Don’t you all agree? In other words, let’s eliminate the current Congress’ platinum healthcare plan or sign all of us for their platinum healthcare insurance plan. Are the members of Congress superior to the American people? Washington politicians should not force me and my family to consume a product too inferior for them and their families. Already, there will be at least two types of healthcare in America if Obama gets his way, one for the wealth-distributors in Washington, and another for the rest of us (wealth-earners) in America.

I personally do not want the government to start dictating to me which hospitals to visit, which doctors to see, and what treatment my doctor is allowed to provide for me and my family. I do not want my medical records to be shared without my permission on the Internet. God forbid the computers are compromised by hackers, and my medical records are sold to insurance companies and future employers, or just published online for everyone to see. I do not trust the government to make personal health care decisions for my family.

We almost lost our first baby when my wife was sent back home during labor by the very incompetent formerly government-run Prince Georges’s County Hospital in Maryland, now out of business and ironically sold to a private company. The experience was a nightmare for my family, and we have consequently had our babies at the Holy Cross (Catholic) hospital 55 miles away. We love the new doctors and the new hospital. We don’t mind the drive. That is our choice.

The government-run public education in America is the most racist and segregated program we have today. Government bureaucrats have found a way to successfully institute geographical segregation. The quality of the education an innocent child receives in America depends on his/her parent’s zip code. There is gross disparity in the funding of public schools. If the public school is failing your child, the government prevents you from driving further away from home in search of a better public school just because of your economic class. Your child’s future is stuck.
If Obama passes his government run health care plan, be prepared for geographical health care. Your doctor will be chosen for you based on your zip-code. You cannot shop around for a good doctor. Your hospital will be selected for you based on where you live. Everyone will have a different health care quality. This is what the government does. Many will be stuck in emergency rooms, and many poor Americans will die daily because of their government-run inferior health care. Be careful what you wish for.

Besides the military (God bless the heart and soul of our hard-working military families), what else does the government run with equity and efficiency? Can you name one? Is it the public schools, the postal service system, Social Security? Even the government provided Medicaid and Medicare are in worse financial crisis than Social Security. Together, they are the main cause of our fiscal problems.

President Obama also said that I get to keep my insurance company if I like my current plan. But what he is omitting is that if I happen to dislike my policy in the future, Obama’s health care law will prevent me for shopping for another insurance company. Obama is effectively lying by omission. My family would be forced to enrol in the government-run health insurance program.

Isn’t Obama controlling enough of our industries already? Let me understand this: I must go to a government controlled bank to apply for a car loan to purchase some dangerous feather-weight environmentally-friendly car from Government Motors (GM). When I get into a car accident, I would be transported to the government run hospital for treatment. I got it!

Obama Struggles To Keep Transparency Promise

The Bush administration in its efforts to protect innocent civilians (like my wife and children) after 9/11 began using Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EITs) to extract valuable intelligence from captured mass murderers and their ilk. The opposing political party accused the Bush team of torture. As a shrewd political move, the Obama administration declassified and released portions of the EITs documents in April 2009, just enough to make the Bush people look bad. How has that kept my family safer?

House speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the CIA of lying, while denying she was briefed on these methods in 2002 and 2003. Those records have not been released. What did she know? When did she know it? How did she use that information to help keep America safe?

Since President Obama released only portions of the EIT damaging to the Bush team, former VP Dick Cheney has called on Obama to declassify all the EIT documents claiming that it will prove those interrogation techniques thwarted terrorist attacks, kept my family safe, and will exonerate the Bush administration. Obama declined.
The New York Times is reporting that a couple of insiders leaked to that newspaper information that Obama’s CIA director, Leon Panetta, has just revealed to Congress another counterterrorism program kept secret by the CIA under direct order from Dick Cheney.

I have had enough of these politicians playing the dirty politics of personal destruction at the expense of the safety of my family and yours. Obama was elected president because he promised complete transparency. Why won’t he make all the interrogations documents transparent now? What is he afraid of? Why won’t Obama order Panetta to release the CIA documents regarding the meetings with Speaker Pelosi? Why is it so difficult for the president to abide by his campaign promise? Does the administration think we are too stupid to make up my own mind if all the records are released? Shouldn’t we know which government officials truly protected our families and those working day and night to protect some cave-dwelling cold-blooded fanatical murderers?

William Jefferson, An American Politician Corrupting Africa

Africa is a continent rich with both natural and human resources. However, the epidemic of corruption and complex bribery deals with both domestic and foreign players has resulted in African leaders siphoning their nation’s wealth into foreign private bank accounts, leading to extreme poverty for most Africans. Former US congressman, William Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat, is under trial for accepting over $400,000 in bribes to secure business deals in Africa. The Congressman was caught on video accepting $100,000 cash in bribery money intended for former Nigerian VP, Atiku Abubakar, and the FBI found $90,000 in marked cash in his freezer during a raid.

Today, Africa suffers from political and economic instability partly because of the exploitative actions of Westerners like William Jefferson, causing Africans to resort to extreme survival measures like Internet scams and regional wars. The selfishness of people like Abubakar and Jefferson is responsible for environmental degradation, starvation, and the death of thousands of children through wars in Africa.

As a first generation American, I have close family members and friends in Africa who suffer daily because of the corruption of these government officials.
